Orleigh Park 

The large amount of green space makes Orleigh Park, at Hill End Terrace, the perfect place for a family picnic. 

Bring your own sandwiches or cook some sausages on one of the handy park barbecues. If throwing a rug down isn’t your style, there are plenty of picnic tables to choose from.  

The park is perfectly positioned alongside the Brisbane River, which makes it an ideal place to sit and watch the boats and ferries go by. Alternatively, it’s an excellent spot to kick the footy. 

The park is also home to Hill End Terrace Playground – great fun for both toddlers and school-aged children. 

As well as some unique animal structures, including a frog with an extremely long tongue, the playground features a variety of low slides accessed by simple climbing structures that will see little ones slipping and sliding the day away. 

Before leaving Orleigh Park, make sure to check out the bike tracks! The kids will love testing out the sensory track with its bumps, corrugations, and bridges, or perhaps going for a ride along the river. 

Urban Climb 

If you’re looking for a full body workout for the whole family, then look no further than Urban Climb. 

This exciting rock-climbing facility at Montague Road welcomes climbers of all ages and abilities. 

As well as being lots of fun, the vast array of climbing walls and bouldering routes will keep you fit as well. 

You don’t need to worry if you’ve never climbed before because the staff provide you with a short course covering all the basics, which is included in the entry fee.

Queensland Ballet 

Culture-loving families will delight in this guided tour through the revitalised Thomas Dixon Centre, rich in history, art, and creativity. 

Led by an expert guide, the one-and-a-half-hour tour will take you through this state-of-the-art building, the old and the new, to hear stories from the original boot making factory days to its present incarnation as home of Queensland Ballet, and Brisbane’s newest arts and entertainment precinct. 

Discover new spaces, enjoy stunning public art, and learn about the building ethos with community, health, and wellbeing at its heart.

Eating out as a family is always a great way to pass the time, but it can sometimes be tricky finding somewhere that everyone likes. 

Fortunately, West End is home to plenty of great family friendly restaurants and cafes that cater for all ages, and many also offer kids’ menus, pram parking, and highchairs. 

A favourite spot with both children and adults is Milk + Honey at Vulture Street – a children’s café combined with a boutique. 

The venue provides a dedicated place for kids to play, while adults enjoy some light shopping, and a coffee served with a pastry or muffin. 

Children love the mini milk shakes, and the baby chinos are free!
