West End is home to a wonderful array of schools catering to everyone from little learners to university students.

SCHOOLS WITHIN THE LOCAL CATCHMENT
There are two schools located within West End’s catchment which suit students heading off to school for Prep through to Year 12.
West End State School: Prep to Year 6
West End State School (WESS) is part of a vibrant, close-knit community situated only 1km from Pradella’s Riverside West End precinct. With a vision to “Empower every student to achieve their personal best to make the world a better place,” WESS is renowned for their evidence-based, high-yield teaching strategies which engage students in all areas of the curriculum. Featuring a beautiful heritage-listed building, WESS was established in 1875 with 236 pupils and now has the capacity to host over 1,000 students.
Brisbane State School: Year 7 to 12
With a longstanding reputation for academic and sporting success, Brisbane State High School (BSHS) was established in 1921 and has grown dramatically, with a current population of over 3,400 students housed on two campus sites on Vulture and Merivale Streets. BSHS has come to symbolise the excellence of state school education with many students having contributed to their state and country through their achievements at the highest levels in public life, sport, business and the community.
WORLD-CLASS UNIVERSITIES
West End is a great hub for university-aged students due to its convenient proximity to both Griffith University’s South Bank Campus and the University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus which are 2.5km and 1.7km away from Montague Markets, respectively.
University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus
Situated on 114 hectares of picturesque Brisbane River-bound land, UQ’s main campus is a vibrant mix of stunning sandstone buildings and contemporary architecture, landscaped gardens and lakes. Easily accessible from West End over the Brisbane River via a very short City Cat journey, UQ at St Lucia features a massive collection of teaching and research facilities including laboratories, lecture theatres and Queensland’s largest research library. The beautiful grounds are also home to a variety of sporting facilities, museums, cafes and those famous Jacaranda trees.
Griffith University, South Bank Campus
Located in Brisbane’s iconic South Bank Parklands, Griffith University includes the Queensland College of Art, the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith Graduate Centre and the Griffith Film School. With a population of 3,400 students, Griffith is perfectly positioned providing students with convenient access to state-of-the-art facilities and teachers at the cutting-edge of their field.
FOR THE LITTLE PEOPLE
West End is home to half a dozen excellent options for early childcare as well. From family centers to privately-owned care options and more well-known branches, little learners are also catered for when it comes to getting to know themselves and their environments.
Top tip: For residents of Pradella’s Riverside West End precinct, Edge Early Learning along Montague Road is the closest option for care available for babies, toddlers and kindy kids.
