A proposed $35 million redevelopment of the Queensland Ballet Headquarters within the heritage listed Thomas Dixon Centre is set to enhance West End’s status as Queensland’s creative heart.

The local area is already home to pumping live music venues, quirky galleries and innovative bars and restaurants, and the redevelopment will be another jewel in West End’s crown which will cement the area’s reputation as an international cultural hub.

The Queensland Ballet submitted the redevelopment application, which includes a new three-storey extension; a new central promenade connecting the existing building and the new extension; and construction of a new 350-400 seat performance studio and public studio, wellness centre, dancer’s lounge, dressing rooms, boardroom and roof terrace areas.

The proposed upgrades will revitalise the state heritage-listed Thomas Dixon Centre building – a former shoe factory, located at 406 Montague Road, and completely transform the area into a world-class dance precinct.

The Queensland Ballet site is less than 3km from Brisbane’s major Cultural Precinct which includes the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA).
